"Three Labe Sonnets" for mezzo-soprano and piano
Small Ensemble Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.978194 Compos…
(+)
Small Ensemble Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.978194 Composed by Jason A. Heald. Contemporary. Score. 16 pages. Call of the Wild Publishing #6265333. Published by Call of the Wild Publishing (A0.978194). THREE LABE SONNETS for mezzo-soprano and piano is a collection of settings by Louise Labé, (1520-1566), a female French Renaissance poet. Labé was fluent in Latin and Italian, and a trained musician. She wrote twenty-four sonnets. TRANSLATION Sonnet VIII - I Live, I Die I live, I die, I burn with fire, I drown. It matters very little what I feel; All life is now too real, now too surreal; Joy comes and endless boredom weighs me down, And suddenly I laugh and then I cry; With grief and bliss Iâm weeping for the past; Good feelings go away and yet they last, And suddenly I bleed and then I sigh. Thatâs how it goes. Strange, ever changing love Has worn me out. I wish I were removed From such a star-crossed fate! I need a truce With Lady Luck. Again and yet again, Her wheel is spinning madly to produce This wanton, wild, intense, exquisite pain. Sonnet XVIII - O Kiss Me O kiss me, kiss me, re-kiss me, and kiss! Be reckless, impudent, hot-headed, bold! O woo me! Pursue me! Kiss me like this: And Iâll give back fifty as hot as red coals. There, is it hurting? Come, letâs soothe the pain. Iâll give you sixty others just like these. And so weâll kiss again and then again, While we enjoy each other at our ease. I know thereâs fire within your unshaped clay, And so, allow me, love, to share my happiness: O letâs make burning passion rule today. Iâm fond of doing what I love to do, Yet cannot feel supreme delight unless I have my other wild encounters, too. Sonnet XIV - As Long As Tears As long as tears can well up in my eyes Iâm saddened that our nights are marked by pain. And now my voice expresses once again A plaintive melody Iâve improvised. As long as I can pluck the lute, I try To sing about your charms in my refrain. As long as I can think, my fevered brain Is burning with an ardent zeal. I cry And cry a hundred thousand times for you. But when I feel my whirling thoughts grow still, And when both hand and voice wonât work their will, Because your treachery is piercing through My heart, Iâll know thereâs just one final way. Iâll ask for Death to darken that bleak day.

Instrumental arrangement of the famous song by Consuelo Velasquez. The original words are: Bésame, bésame mucho, [kiss me now, oh drown me with kisses] Como si fuera esta noche la última vez, [as if tonight were the last time] Bésame mucho, [oh kiss me] Que tengo miedo perderte, perderte otra vez [I'm so scared of losing you again] Quiero tenerte muy cerca, mirarme en tus ojos, verte junto a mi [I want to hold you close, see me in your eyes, see you next to me] Piensa que tal vez mañana yo ya estaré lejos, muy lejos de ti [thinking that some time tomorrow I'll be far away from you] Bésame, bésame mucho, [kiss me now, oh drown me with kisses] Como si fuera esta noche la última vez, [as if tonight were the last time] Bésame mucho, [oh kiss me] Que tengo miedo perderte, perderte después [I'm so scared of losing you after].

Piano Solo - Digital Download SKU: A0.1012749 Composed by Monica Bergo. Contemporary. Score. 9 pages. Moni Bergo #5743669. Published by Moni Bergo (A0.1012749). Music and song composed by me, dedicated to my sister dead THE MISSING LINK I often still get surprised looking for you between people in a gesture in an instant in an evasive shadow and I remain hooked between past and present a recurring sensation alone among people. Lying and pretending than inside me nothing is missing a pathetic clown always happy and smiley I write music and words to tame the fire inside me because only we know where this pain is taking us where are you? where are you? my sweet missing link you will come back to fill my mind I step back once again and I am limbing next to you hand in hand resigned, while the grey was oppressing for the two of us at every awakening a battle would start I pushed that moment back I didn't wanna be awake but you always protected me even from a cruel child my fearless sister so storng and independent you used to talk to me about guys and how to kiss them I used to blush and my heart beating fast I will look for and call my missing ring and you will answer with the same silence used to ask me if you were beautiful with that storng make up on you looked like a sad Pierrot tired of being avoided you were uncomofortable and people used to push you away many ignorant hypocrits looking like saints and again the two of us together in the open abyss me climbing up slowly but you remain behind I give you my hand but your destiny was written you fall down deep and far in that damned hell it will shine, it will shine my missing ring I will show it proudly to the people and you flew away in that boiling July the freeze inside my heart you, unconscous and paralyzed and for your last travel few hopeless people for the life she used to live it's better that she s gone but they know nothing about it about your unheard shout of my diamonds ring dropped in the mud freedom is a meaningless word oh you, bling and deaf butterfly your wings are now open you will fly, I will fly and I will delete the distance I will find my missing ring.. I've grown now, moved on or so they say, Cut those old apron strings, Though your hair is as snow, your voice so low, Your face such sweet memories bring.  Across the wide world I've traveled, The miles between us are long, But through the years, the fears, and through the tears, Your smile floats to me like a song.Chorus:Ending:When life's road gets rough And the goin' gets so tough, Home will be wherever; Wherever you are.

Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1398436 By Bobby Darin. By Albert Lasry, Charles Trenet, and Jack Lawrence. Arranged by Tobi A Crawford. Contemporary,Jazz. Score (Chords/Lyrics). 7 pages. Tobi Crawford #981711. Published by Tobi Crawford (A0.1398436). This arrangement came to me over a number of weeks in a very organic way that began with the ostinato piano figure that prevails throughout the piece. I began playing it unattached to any tune and I just liked the way the line descended in the left hand and how I had to find voicings in the right hand that made harmonic sense â like a puzzle. As I was playing around with this puzzle, thoughts of my father were swirling around in my head â I was at the end of a 4 year period of separation from my parents owing to the fact that Iâm a Canadian expat living in the US and the borders were closed for a long time because of Covid, and then I had work visa issues and my parents were getting older before my eyes. They were also losing friends to cancer and other ailments and my dad, in particular, had experienced the loss of many close family members and friends during our separation and it was taking a toll. One day I sat down and played the now familiar-to-me ostinato but randomly I started to sing âBeyond the Seaâ over it and it fit perfectly. I thought it a happy coincidence. As the days went on I committed to putting my ostinato with Beyond the Sea and the lyrics started to seep into my brain. I have, of course, heard these lyrics many times before, (who hasnât seen Finding Nemo?) but the lyrics didnât mean what I thought they meant⦠Theyâre NOT about the ocean, they are about my dad!!! Well, kind of⦠I realized, through careful reflection and by slowing the words down, that the lyrics are talking about a person in heaven who is patiently waiting for their partner to join them. Somewhere beyond the seaSheâs there watching for meâ¦Itâs far beyond the starsItâs near beyond the moon And the lyrics end with them meeting, âWeâll meet beyond the shore, weâll kiss just like before,â and the song ends with: âand never again Iâll go sailing.â Itâs like the big bang went off in my head about why all these thoughts of my dad, and his friends, and this arrangement, and what it all meant suddenly just MADE SENSE and I was able to start formulating a plan. Performance Suggestions: The improvisation solo in the middle should be free of any traditional âscat syllablesâ and should be more of a lament. Listen to singers like Aubrey Johnson and Sara Gazarek improvise on ballads for inspiration.

Flute,Vibraphone,Voice - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1089176 Composed by Daniel Burwasser. Contemporary. 8 pages. Head and Stem #693387. Published by Head and Stem (A0.1089176). Pavel Friedmann wrote the poem âThe Butterflyâ in 1942 in the Terezin Ghetto when he was 21. He was murdered in the Auschwitz extermination camp in 1944. Pavel was born in 1921 in Prague, Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic) to a Jewish father and a Christian mother. The Butterfly is a living symbol of the beauty of freedom. Such a free spirit could never have survived the confines of the Warsaw ghetto. But while the butterfly did fly away, the spirit and love of freedom it represented never left the souls of the Jews of the ghetto. They always prayed that one day the barbed wire would come down and the butterfly would reappear. The butterfly flutters there today, but many of the Jews who prayed for its return did not live to welcome it back. The first performance of The Butterfly was given on May 8, 1988 at JASA in New York City. The performers were: Andrew Bolotowsky, flute Glenn Rhian, vibraphone Mimi Stern-Wolfe, reciter There are at least two versions of the poem The Butterfly due to different translations. This work uses VERSION 2 as translated here: The last, the very last, So richly, brightly, dazzlingly yellow. Perhaps if the sun's tears would sing against a white stone... Such, such a yellow carried lightly way up high. It went away I'm sure because it wished to kiss the world goodbye. For seven weeks I've lived in here, penned up inside this ghetto, but I have found my people here. The dandelions call to me and the white chestnut candles in the court. Only I never saw another butterfly. That butterfly was the last one. Butterflies don't live in here, In the ghetto. For more information, go to: https://www.danielburwasser.com/To contact the composer directly, go to: danielburwasser9@gmail.comYoutube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@danielburwasser60.

Small Ensemble Bouzouki,Guitar,Harpsichord,Mandolin,Violin - Digital Download SKU: A0.1017678 Composed by Anonymous. Arranged by Gordon Jackson. Baroque,Celtic,Classical,Folk,Irish,Multicultural,World. Score and parts. 4 pages. Gordon Jackson #6436745. Published by Gordon Jackson (A0.1017678). Staines MorrisThe song, Staines Morris, is very well known by singers of traditional songs. Itâs a 17th century song. Itâs a 19th century song. Actually, itâs both! The lyrics were certainly published, and probably written, by Robert Cox for his play Actaeon and Diana, published in 1656. The tune was first published in John Playfordâs The English Dancing Master in 1651. There is no evidence that, in the 17th century, the lyrics were sung to this melody. That didnât happen for two hundred years, when William Chappell put the two together for his Popular Music of the Olden Time, vol. 1 (1859). I have added chords to the melody. Whilst humming the tune to myself, I found myself moving into 6/8 time, and that inspired me to compose a galliard based on it, complete with âdivisionsâ (runs of semiquavers or 32nd notes) and counterpoint. The song melody and the galliard can be played separately or as parts of one piece, perhaps with the galliard played between two of the verses. I put the galliard in A minor, to provide a contrast with the D minor song melody, but play them in whatever key takes your fancy. I have also added below the lyrics, as most often sung today.Come ye young men, come alongWith your music, dance and songBring your lasses in your handsFor âtis that which love commands Then to the Maypole haste away For âtis now our holidayIt is the choice time of the yearFor the violets now appearNow the rose receives its birthAnd the pretty primrose decks the earthAnd when you well reckoned haveWhat kisses you your sweetheart gaveTake them all again, and moreIt will never make them poorWhen you thus have spent your timeAnd the day be past its primeTo your beds repair at nightAnd dream there of your dayâs delight

The Water is Wide for Viola & Piano

Composed by Traditional Scottish. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Christian, Repertoire, Technique Training, Easter, Lent. Score, Set of Parts. 17 pages. Published by jmsgu3
The Water Is Wide (O Waly Waly)<br> Duration: 5:24<br> Score: 10 pg. 121 ms., MM quarter = 94, final verse MM quarter = 80, common time<br> Solo part: 3 pg.<br> Piano part: 4 pg.<br> <br> A thought-provoking arrangement of a Traditional Scottish Folksong. Probably most widely known as "The Water Is Wide,"<br> it is also well known by it's more ancient title: "O Waly Waly." The tune is also known as " When I Survey the Wondrous Cross," and "The Gift of Love."<br> This is an original arrangement from the ground up.<br> <br> Programming:<br> If you are looking for something with new contrapuntal and harmonic adventures for a Lenten prelude or a meditation during Holy Week, this will fit the bill.<br> It could also work well in a recital setting because it fits well on the instrument, and provides a chance to show off long, sensitive musical phrases.<br> Some of the figures in the descant verse are a wee-bit more advanced so, this is for intermediate players rather than beginners.<br> <br> Keep in mind these performance ideas:<br> 1. It's a simple tune that needs to unfold in the due course of time, so don't rush it. A slight ritardando at the end of each verse may help if you want to further delineate the verses.<br> 2. There is a lot of interesting counterpoint here, so be prepared to give-and-take on the dynamics more than what I have indicated.<br> 3. The final verse is much slower and more mysterious, and the dynamics are crucial - the quieter the better. Piano - the last chord: take your time on the roll, make it nice and slow.<br> <br> Synopsis of the arrangement:<br> verse 1: Simple quiet duet with the melody in the solo instrument.<br> verse 2: Melody in the solo instrument accompanied by a 2-part canon in the piano.<br> verse 3: Melody in the piano in 4-part harmony.<br> verse 4: 3-part canon on the melody (with a free accompaniment voice).<br> verse 5: 2-part canon with a free accompaniment in the solo part<br> verse 6: Melody in octaves with free bass in octaves; descant in the solo part - loudest verse.<br> verse 7: Very quiet ending verse - Modulates down a fourth, melody in the solo part accompanied by simple quartal/quintal<br> piano clusters over bass chords that suggest submerged church bells.<br> <br> For better insight into the performance of this music: express the emotion indicated by the lyrics:<br> <br> The Water Is Wide:<br> The water is wide, I cannot get over<br> Neither have I wings to fly<br> Give me a boat that can carry two<br> And both shall row, my love and I<br> A ship there is and she sails the sea<br> She's loaded deep as deep can be<br> But not so deep as the love I'm in<br> I know not if I sink or swim<br> I leaned my back against an oak<br> Thinking it was a trusty tree<br> But first it bent and then it broke<br> So did my love prove false to me<br> I reached my finger into some soft bush<br> Thinking the fairest flower to find<br> I pricked my finger to the bone<br> And left the fairest flower behind<br> Oh love be handsome and love be kind<br> Gay as a jewel when first it is new<br> But love grows old and waxes cold<br> And fades away like the morning dew<br> Must I go bound while you go free<br> Must I love a man who doesn't love me<br> Must I be born with so little art<br> As to love a man who'll break my heart<br> When cockle shells turn silver bells<br> Then will my love come back to me<br> When roses bloom in winter's gloom<br> Then will my love return to me<br> <br> The lyrics for "Waly, Waly, Gin Love Be Bonny" from Ramsay's Tea Table Miscellany (1724).<br> <br> O Waly, waly (a lament "woe is me") up the bank,<br> And waly, waly doun the brae (hill),<br> And waly, waly, yon burn-side (riverside),<br> Where I and my love wont to gae.<br> I lean'd my back into an aik (oak),<br> I thocht it was a trusty tree;<br> But first it bow'd, and syne (soon) it brak (broke),<br> Sae my true love did lightly me.<br> <br> O waly, waly, but love be bonnie (beautiful),<br> A little time while it is new,<br> But when 'tis auld (old), it waxeth cauld (cold),<br> And fades away like the morning dew.<br> O wherefore should I busk my heid (adorn my head)?<br> Or wherefore should I kame (comb) my hair?<br> For my true love has me forsook,<br> And says he'll never love me mair (more).<br> <br> Now Arthur Seat shall be my bed,<br> The sheets shall ne'er be fyl'd by me,<br> Saint Anton's well shall be my drink,<br> Since my true love has forsaken me.<br> Martinmas wind, when wilt thou blaw (blow),<br> And shake the green leaves off the tree?<br> O gentle death, when wilt thou come?<br> For of my life I am weary.<br> <br> 'Tis not the frost, that freezes fell,<br> Nor blawing snaws (snow) inclemency,<br> 'Tis not sic cauld (such cold) that makes me cry,<br> But my love's heart grown cauld to me.<br> When we cam in by Glasgow town,<br> We were a comely sight to see;<br> My love was clad in the black velvet,<br> And I my sell in cramasie (crimson).<br> <br> But had I wist (known), before I kiss'd,<br> That love had been sae ill to win,<br> I'd lock my heart in a case of gold,<br> And pin'd it with a silver pin.<br> Oh, oh! if my young babe were born,<br> And set upon the nurse's knee,<br> And I my sell were dead and gane,<br> For a maid again I'll never be.[4]<br> (Lyrics courtesy of Wikipedia)<br> <br> <br> For more information, please feel free to contact me at: jmsgu3 "at" gmail.com<br> James M.
